Sri Sanskriti Dance Academy proudly presents
Rangoli – Colors of India
In its second annual year now, the Mississauga-based dance academy Sri Sanskriti, is gearing up for its summer showcase on May 17, 2008. This year's theme focuses on vibrant and colorful vignettes from across various states of India.
Aptly titled 'Rangoli - Colors of India', this mélange of lifestyles, folk dance, music and art will be a unique stage show comprising of over 65 young students who undergo rigorous training in the Indian classical dance style of Bharata Natyam at the academy.
Founded by Prabha Raghavan, Sri Sanskriti is an artistic journey to preserve, promote and propagate this classical Indian dance style. She believes that the training and discipline entailed, allows student talent to understand and learn the rich Indian values, traditions and the cultural heritage.
'The origin, stories, narration or choreography of most classical forms of dance evolve from rural lifestyles' says Prabha Raghavan, 'and 'Rangoli' aims to reflect this very aspect of Bharata Natyam. This unique exposure to Indian cultures, stories, folk life and art helps students draw a parallel and imbibe useful techniques into their repertoire.'
Sri Sanskriti Dance Academy presents, 'Rangoli - Colours of India', at Burnamthorpe Library on May 17, 2008 at 4.00pm. The Academy also welcomes new registrants. For more information, please contact:
